Shane Alexander werd geboren in San Diego en groeide op in Maryland en Pennsylvania. Hij dankt zijn muzikale gift aan de rijke platencollectie van zijn overigens niet muzikale ouders. Zo luisterde hij op zevenjarige leeftijd al naar de melancholische muziek van Simon & Garfunkel, maar ook naar Cat Stevens, Black Sabbath en The Moody Blues.
